The Rockwall High School Track and Field Team for both girls and boys earns high praises from Coach McCrary (and rightly so!). Both teams made history winning District and Area track meets, and have sent many of these athletes to State. These kids have been recognized both in their community and nationally. Congratulations to all of the Jacket Athletes of the Month.
Kaela Perez has been a steady member of the girl's track team all season. At the district meet, Kaela scored 34 of the girls' 231 points. At area, she scored 26 points and qualified in all 4 of her events for the Regional Meet. Kaela is one of those types of kids if you had 10 just like her, you would be able to have a very successful team because she is so versatile and she works extremely hard all of the time.
Sam Alves who was
a 2021 Bronze Medalist at the UIL State Meet has remained on fire this
season. He has only finished lower than
1st in one race this entire season, and that was on Mar. 5 in Texas A&M
where he placed 2nd. Sam has qualified
for the 2022 state meet in the 110 hurdles and his mission is to bring home the
gold this season. In the 200-meter dash,
Sam broke a 26-year-old record and this season, he has actually broke his own
record twice. The new record of 21.54
will stand for at least a year, before someone comes along to challenge
it. Sam will be attending Texas Tech
next season to carry on his track and field skills.
Claire Lowrey has
been on fire this season and has remained undefeated in the high jump. Actually, in 2 years, her lowest placing was
3rd place and that was at the state track meet last spring where she brought
home the bronze medal. Claire has jumped
a nation's best jump of 6'0" this season. Which is a new RHS School Record.
On average Claire has jumped 5'10" in every meet except on Mar. 5
where she jumped 5' 9 3/4" and Mar. 26 where she jumped her PR best of
6'0". Claire has qualified for the
UIL State Track Meet again with bringing home the gold medal a top priority.
Georgia Long, Tylar
Parker, Aja Johnson, and Presley Green make up the Girls 4X100 Relay
Team. On Apr. 1 the girls' 4x100 Relay
broke a 7-year-old record of the 4x100 Relay.
This season they also have average faster times, than any other team in
RHS History. Their record of 48.34 will
stand for at least one year before another group comes along to try and make
their mark on RHS History.
Collin McCrillis has
continued to develop this season despite some injuries. Collin has had a goal to get under 15 seconds
in the 110 hurdles. Well on April 21 he
finally did that and he qualified for the Regional meet as well. At Regionals Collin bettered his time a few
more hundredths of a second by running a 14.96.
Collin is young and eager to get better in track at all that he
does. Without a doubt Collin will have a
tremendous amount of success in his next 2 years here at Rockwall High School.
These men and women have exemplified JFND all season, and
are sure to continue the success for years to come.
