Southwest Kia Rockwall Donates to Rockwall Jacket Backers Scholarship Fund

One of the few bright spots for 2020 has been the Rockwall High School Yellowjackets Football Team.  Coming off a historic year where the 2019-2020 team set records each Friday Night as they battled to the 6A Division 1 State Semi-Finals, there were some of those who were hesitant to think there was any magic left from the historic football program that last won a State Championship in 1963.

First-year Head Coach Trey Brooks took the reign leading the 2020-2021 Jackets in the toughest high school division in the country.  With the pandemic seating was limited, health protocols were put in place, businesses faced with government mandated shutdowns were unable to pledge scholarship donations and every reason why something couldn’t be done was provided.  Coach Brooks and the Mighty Orange didn’t let that stop them as they improved to a 10-1 record gaining hardware as the 6A Region 10 District and Bi-District Champions.  The Bi-District Championship was Rockwall’s 8th in a row and the District Championship was their first since 2015-2016 where that team led by quarterback and current Rockwall assistant coach Will Reed made the State Quarterfinals.

With a lack of sponsors for the Jacket Backers Scholarship Fund which provides scholarships to Rockwall High School student athlete seniors; Southwest KIA Rockwall answered the call and pledged a $50 donation for each touchdown scored by the Jackets at a home game.  If you were one of the lucky fans to gain admissions into Wilkerson-Sanders Memorial Stadium you would have seen Rockwall come from behind against top ranked Southlake Carrol with the Jackets outscoring the Dragons 44-42.  They would add three more TD’s against Highland Park the next game, defeat Heath Hawks in the I-30 Classic a 3rd year in a row, win a tough battle against Tyler Legacy and blowout Mesquite Horn on Senior Night.  Once the dust settled in the Bi-District Championship game against Wylie Pirates; the Rockwall Jackets would add a total of 34 touchdowns under the Rockwall lights!  Each time the Jackets scored, the horn would sound and the scoreboard big screen would play Sales Manager Joey Wilhoite showing his excitement for Rockwall Football and their numerous TD’s becoming the most talked about video announcement in the town!

After the playoffs, Southwest KIA Rockwall will be presenting a check to the Rockwall Jacket Backers Booster Club for $1700 ($500 has to be paid to RISD) which will add to the scholarship fund allowing the non-profit organization to help Rockwall’s High School Student Athletes.  Brandon Morris, Southwest KIA Rockwall’s General Manager said, “Rockwall has a lot of firepower.  I knew we would get to contribute something relatively meaningful to the program.  We appreciate the opportunity to give back to the community and look forward to Rockwall bringing a Texas State Title home.”

On behalf of the Rockwall Jacket Backers, Rockwall High School Football Team and Rockwall’s High School Student-Athletes, Thank you to Southwest KIA Rockwall for your support!  Southwest KIA Rockwall is located at 17900 E. Interstate 30 and can be reached at 469.402.2900.
