Each month, the Jacket Backers, Rockwall High School’s
Booster Club selects student athletes who are nominated by their coach for
Jacket Athlete of the Month. For the
month of October Anfernee Orji, Janelle Hummingbird, Madison Hatcher, Will
Horn, River Hill and Olivia Cade, were each nominated by their coaches and
selected as Jacket Athletes of the Month.
Anfernee Orji is
the Senior Free Safety for the Rockwall Jackets Playoff Bound Football
Team. He averaged 10 tackles per game
during Varsity’s undefeated month of October.
“Anfernee led a resurgent defense that allowed only 9.5 points per
game. He is committed to Vanderbilt, maintains
a high GPA and is a tremendous leader on our team” exclaims Head Varsity
Football Coach Rodney Webb.
Janelle Hummingbird
a Senior Swimmer and recent University of Arkansas Commit is a team leader,
captain and State Qualifier. In the
short time Coach Partenheimer has coached the Rockwall High School Swimming
Team, he has seen Janelle be sought after by multiple Division 1 NCAA schools
finally committing to Arkansas which competes in the SEC.
Madison Hatcher
the Junior Golfer for the Girls Team shot 80 in both of the Lady Jackets
tournaments over the last few weeks.
This was the low round for the Lady Jackets in both tournaments.
“Madison is a hard worker who just began playing golf a week
before her freshman year. She has worked
extremely hard and is now one of the best players in our program. Her ability and development is totally a
result of her hard work and dedication. Madison
has matured a lot over the last year and I'm very excited to see the next year
and a half of her high school career.
She has the talent to play at the next level if she chooses to follow
that path” states Coach Watkins, Head Rockwall High School Golf Coach.
Will Horn who is
a Junior Golfer for the Boys Team was also nominated by Coach Watkins. He adds, “Will is now in his 3rd year of
Varsity golf. Will has been a steady
player for the Jackets throughout his time and this fall he has played well
again. He shot 72 in his first
tournament and then 75 in the next round of competition. Will
is a very dedicated golfer. He works on
his game and you can tell when we play tournaments that he has prepared himself
for success. Will is a talented golfer
that also applies himself in the classroom.
An opportunity at the next level should be waiting for Will as he enters
the spring semester of his junior year.”
River Hill, only
a Sophomore in Boys’ Cross-country broke a 19 year old school record of 15:31
creating a new school record of 15:29.
He also qualified for state being the 10th individual at regionals. He competes this Saturday, November 3rd at
the state meet. Coach Howell predicts,
“He is going to be the best long distance runner to ever come out of Rockwall
high school. He has the ability to break
all the distance record in cross-country and track before he graduates.”
Olivia Cade, also
a Sophomore for Girls Cross-country finished
2nd on the team at regional championship with a personal record of 19:47. She was also in the top 6 in the district
meet. Howell adds, “Olivia has been a
consistent runner for the team all year and her talents helped the girls win a
district championship. Olivia Cade is the
most versatile athlete in the school.
She has contributed so much to the cross-country team this year by being
consistent in her running. She is a
great asset and team player.”
