Each month, the Jacket Backers, Rockwall High School’s
Booster Club selects student athletes who are nominated by their coach for
Jacket Athlete of the Month. For the
month of January, Aaron Cory, Rebecca Simpson, Ashley Drennon, Louis Jelic and
Emma Stelzer, were each nominated by their coaches and selected as Jacket
Athletes of the Month.
Aaron Cory, the
Senior Male Diver won the diving event for Districts. "His final meet at the Rockwall Aquatic
Center was one of his best. He finished
.4 points away from breaking the school record for diving" shares Coach Partenheimer.
Rebecca Simpson, a
Sophomore female Swimmer won the 500
Free and 200 Free at the district championship meet. She was also named the Swimmer of the
meet. “She helped the girls’ team with
their district title. She won both of
her individual events and both relays.
Then also received the District 9-6A Female swimmer of the meet” adds
Coach Partenheimer.
Ashley Drennon, a
Freshman Girls Soccer Player started in 9 games and she is responsible for 5 of
the 9 goals scored in preseason. “Ashley
has come in with a fire and determination that inspires her teammates daily!
She motivates and encourages by example, and she always has a smile on her
face! As a freshman, she has picked up the Jacket Fight motto and personified
it every chance she has. We are lucky to
have her as a member of the Lady Jacket Soccer team” states Coach Garcia.
Louis Jelic, a
senior for Boys Gymnastics, Louis scored a 9.0 on Pommel Horse and finished in
1st place January 17 when Rockwall competed against Heath and against Highland
Park on the 24th Louis scored a 9.2 on Pommel Horse and finished in
2nd place. He currently ranks 1st in the
state in combined 3 score average for Pommel Horse. “Louis works hard in the gym every day to
ensure that he and his teammates are maximizing their workouts. Congratulations Louis! Keep it up!” says Cameron Sweny, Head Men’s Gymnastics
Coach.
Emma Stelzer, a
junior for the Lady Jacket Basketball Team, Averaging 8.2 points, 2.7 assist,
3.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.
“Emma's ability to penetrate and finish, shoot jump shots and 3's,
rebound, handle the ball, read the floor, and create shots for her team, and defend
post players twice her size (when she is a guard) has helped our team at a
chance for a back-to-back District Championship with 1 game remaining. Emma is a great basketball player,
phenomenal leader, and hard worker. She
always comes to practice with a positive attitude and a sense of urgency for
her and her team to improve. Her love
and care for her team and attention to detail, has helped us improve daily and
given us a chance for another District Championship” shares Kasie Brewer, Head
Girls’ Varsity Basketball Coach.
